London store celebrates British history

Leading department store Selfridges has opened a new exhibition to celebrate British history during the early 50s as part of its Diamond Jubilee plans.

The world-famous shopping paradise is holding a number of events to mark the Queen's 60 years on the throne and the in-store event the Big British Bang aims to celebrate everything British-related during 1951 to 1953.

In particular, a new exhibition curated by Judith Clark and milliner Stephen Jones focuses on British fashion during the period and visitors taking advantage of London hotel deals will be able to see a selection of outfits worn by the Queen.

Jones has designed a range of hats to match the outfits and he explained that headwear was vital to the period's fashion.
