If you are looking not to break the bank this summer, then the Free Fringe Festival at The Scoop may be perfect for you.
Spanning three weeks, the festival has an extensive programme of unusual and bizarre events that are sure to amuse all ages. The festival kicks off, for example, with a unique production of the History of Britain by The Pantaloons, while the Merry Opera Company will be on hand to offer live music. The latter, in particular, will be putting their eclectic touch on classics, with a highlight sure to be their updated version of Kiss Me Figaro!
The festival will go off with a bang, with the first weekend hosting a three-day Brazilian street party, reminiscent of Notting Hill Carnival that will take London by storm two months later. Here, you will be able to enjoy live acoustic drums, salsa lessons, a capoeira demo by Urban Ritual Capoeira, afro beats from SonFaray and live performances from The Cracked. And if all of that was not enough, there will be a large variety of street food stalls, such as Mama’s Jerk Station, Azrafran and Churros Garci, selling delicious Brazilian treats.
The biggest day of the street party will be the Saturday (June 7th), when all the bands will be returning for a huge fiesta, including South London Samba, Soul Fiesta Collective, The Synergee, the Drop and Shanai.
For all things left-field, the Free Fringe Festival is your best bet, and the great thing about it is that it is completely free. The festival will be running from June 4th to 20th 2014.
If you are looking for a place to stay, the Shaftesbury hotels are extremely comfortable and easy to get to via the London Underground network.
