Merrily We Roll Along at the Harold Pinter Theatre

The sun is coming out and the holidays are nearly here, so what better way to celebrate than with an all-singing, all-dancing show such as the fun-filled, vibrant production Merrily We Roll Along?

Helmed by the triple Olivier Award-winning Maria Friedman making her directorial debut, the show has a fantastic cast led by Mark Umbers, Jenna Russell and Damian Humbley.

Friedman is probably better known for appearing on the stage herself, having made numerous appearances in the West End and on Broadway. She has focused much of her career around the work of her great friend Stephen Sondheim.

In May 2010, she sang at his 80th birthday celebrations in both New York and Washington, so it seemed only fitting that her foray into directing should be on this show for which the legend himself masterminded the music and lyrics.

The official website for the show describes it as "an emotionally charged journey through the lives of three very dear friends [as it] winds back in time, exploring how the choices we make in life can change everything and everyone we love".

It arrived in the West End from the prestigious venue, the Menier Chocolate Factory, where the show was revived in November last year, coming to its current location at the start of this month.

At the Critics' Circle Theatre Awards, it won the Peter Hepple Award for Best Musical, meaning that those staying in central London hotels looking for a show to go along to can guarantee this production will treat them to an evening of some of the finest musical theatre that the West End has to offer.
