It’s safe to say that whilst there’s an immense multitude of different attractions in central London, some draw bigger crowds than others. The London Eye, Oxford Street and the Thames are some of the most well-known entertainment venues in our capital and are top of the to-do lists for many of the millions of tourists who flock to London every year.
One adrenaline-pumping attraction you may not associate with our capital city is rock climbing. The truth is, however, that there are multiple venues in central London where you can test your climbing skills and push your body’s agility to its limits before heading back for a well-earned rest at your comfortable room in the Shaftesbury London. Read on to find out which ones are the best.
The Climbing Hangar
5 Parsons Green Depot, 33-35 Parsons Green Ln, Fulham
Travelling westwards from our London Piccadilly hotels will take you to The Climbing Hangar in Fulham. This brilliant little bouldering gym has multiple routes and courses for you to try out and also offers classes for those new to the climbing game. On top of this, there’s a dedicated workout area upstairs if you’re looking to pump some iron in-between sessions on the rock-climbing wall. There’s also a special space for yoga to cool down after a hard day’s climbing.
Vauxwall Climbing Centre
46 – 47a S Lambeth Rd, Vauxhall
Another superb rock-climbing centre close to your room at the Shaftesbury London is Vauxwall Climbing centre. Vauxwall is home to some of the most creatively crafted walls in our capital and is a favourite among the climbing community for its beginner-friendly atmosphere. The centre is due to be expanded soon to include even more routes, but in the meantime this remains a brilliant place to get your climbing fix in the heart of London. There’s also a free weights area so you can buff up in order to tackle the more difficult courses, and Vauxwall also holds regular competition nights for the more experienced and competitive climbers to try their hand at.
The Castle Climbing Centre
Green Lanes, Stoke Newington
The Castle Climbing Centre is one of the most popular rock climbing venues in all of London, and it’s easy to see why. Brilliant for both beginners and advanced climbers, The Castle Climbing Centre has over five different floors filled with 450 different routes including bouldering, top roping, lead climbing and more. To keep their offering fresh, the staff here regularly change their courses to create 80 new ones each month, giving this rock-climbing spot fantastic longevity value.
As well as being home to one of the biggest indoor climbing walls in all of Europe, and further outdoor climbing options, there’s a whole host of other brilliant facilities to be found here. The Castle Shop is a one-stop location for all your climbing equipment needs, and if you’re feeling peckish you can always grab a tasty bite to eat from The Castle Café. There’s also a gym, bike park, lockers and changing rooms available, making this one of the most fully-equipped climbing spots in London.
