The best Italian restaurants in London

London is a terrific destination for foodies, particularly if you’re into Italian cuisine. But the fact is that there can sometimes be too much choice. Where do you start if you’re trying to look for the best place to grab a bite to eat?

Well, look no further and see if you concur with our recommendations for some of the best Italian restaurants in London.

Locanda Locatelli

Address: 8 Seymour St, Marylebone, London W1H 7JZ

Run by renowned Italian chef Giorgio Locatelli, this restaurant serves up classic Italian dishes but with plenty of interesting twists.

How can you not be tempted by tagliatelle with goat kid and chili, or lasagnetti with salt cod, anchovies and capers?

The menu is bursting with great options like this, all of which can be ordered alongside a great selection of breads and washed down with something from the extensive wine list.

Bocca di Lupo

Address: 12 Archer St, Soho, London W1D 7BB

Billing itself as London’s premier regional Italian restaurant in the heart of Soho, this establishment’s glamorous location means it’s a great place for a bit of celebrity spotting.

The restaurant’s stripped down and honest approach to Italian cooking has earned it many awards and accolades in the last few years.

And with its ingredients carefully sourced from Italy, you can be confident of a truly authentic culinary experience.

Address: 197-201 Richmond Rd, London E8 3NJ

Don’t be put off by the name. This hip, industrial-chic pizzeria offers a great selection of pizzas, pasta dishes and sides. We particularly love the imaginative array of pizza toppings on offer. You really wouldn’t think some of them work, but they really do.

The ‘disco ball’ oven lets diners see the pizzas being fired, which we think is always a measure of a place that is confident in its food and hygiene standards.

It can get busy in here though, so it’s worth booking in advance if you have your heart set on sitting down at one of its tables.

Il Cudega

Address: Arch 358, Westgate Street, London, E8 3RL

Nestled under an otherwise unremarkable railway arch is this crowd-funded deli-restaurant. Dishing up a great selection of organically produced ingredients from Lombardy, this offers an authentic taste of Italy and while some might underrate the meals because of their simplicity, we think it’s best to nail the basics than do a mediocre job of the complex!

Enoteca Turi

Address: 87 Pimlico Rd, Belgravia, London SW1W 8PH

This family-run Italian restaurant boasts a classy dining room that sets the scene before you’ve even ordered. Serving up modern cuisine and a great selection of regional wines, this establishment boasts a relaxed yet sophisticated vibe that sets it apart from more generic restaurants.

A Cena

Address: 418 Richmond Road, London, TW1 2EB

Located close to Twickenham Stadium, this establishment boasts a warm, friendly and relaxed atmosphere and changes its menu with each season.

It therefore invites repeat visits, particularly if you want to work your through the extensive wine list, which includes wines from the smallest Italian vineyards to some better known vintages.

Of course, this list just scratches the surface, as there are quite literally hundreds of Italian restaurants in and around London.

But based on our own experiences and the recommendations of some trusted people, we reckon you won’t go far wrong if you try out one of those listed above.
